About the course
Within two years of establishing these courses, major comedy contests had been won by our graduates,
some of whom havesigned with major comedy managements. Also many participants appear in solo stand-up and sketch shows on the Edinburgh Fringe, as well as gigging at top comedy clubs worldwide and touring, plus appearing by invitation at Melbourne, Montreal and Kilkenny international comedy festivals, and the Perrier/if.comeddies accolade can't be far away either. NO OTHER COMEDY COURSE COMES CLOSE!
Fuller details of the next courses are available by email from Courses@StandUpAndDeliver.com
The Absolute and Almost Beginners comedy courses are proven and comprehensive, having an unassailable reputation, and explore the fundamentals of comedy culminating in optional stand-up comedy showcases for the participants who will have evolved into fledgling comedians, to demonstrate their newly gained skills in one of the showcases.
If you wish you can find out more at an information session and show (see below) that precedes it. But in summary, the course will give participants the chance to develop and practice skills in gag writing, stagecraft, microphone technique and character development etc, to explore persona, status, spontaneity and absurdity, performance styles, while concentrating on generating original material, delivery and communicating effectively with the audience - how to be funny and become the best performer you can. Some people may have stage experience, but most won't. No preparation is required, and there will be ongoing opportunities to practice stand-up routines on stage, as well as one-to-one's with the course leader. Absolute and Almost Beginners comedy course graduates can progress to Compering, Comedy Writing, Taking Your Show to the Fringe seminars, and other advanced courses.
About course leader Logan Murray
Logan Murray who leads this course is supportive and encouraging; he often remarks on the longlasting friendships that develop on the courses, and that the showcases are wonderful for the great adrenalin rush and buzz of your first gig. Logan, best known in the world of stand-up comedy as his alter ego Ronnie Rigsby, is also comedy sketch writing mentor with the BBC, award-winning comedy show director, a University lecturer in comedy and comedy tutor at the Sylvia Young Stage School, plus comedy writing mentor for the BBC. He has a lengthy CV of television appearances, writing and production credits to his name, as well as being very busy with voiceovers etc. He was also one half of Bib and Bob with Jerry Sadowitz which had a West End run, has been hailed as a great comic talent by The Guardian, and comperes graduates showcases in character.
Included will be tickets for course participants to AmusedMooseSoho/Camden shows, to study the styles and techniques of different comics including top stand-ups, character comics, double acts and comperes, and also advice/suggestions about how to start performing, including do's and dont's and information about openspot gigs.
Introductory/Information evening
You are invited to this session (not compulsory and not integral to the course) that features performances as well as discussions, which take place one evening a week or two before each London course starts.
Course leader Logan Murray will explain the course, an established comedian (usually a course graduate) will talk about becoming a stand-up and probably about how they started gigging and what they like about doing stand-up, how it inspires them, where it has led them and what you might want from it; and a club promoter explains the relevance of promoter and booker. They will probably touch on how the comedy circuit has become a major source of talent for television, films and radio, as the entertainment world is constantly looking out for "new faces".
In the middle section comedians who are course graduates will perform short stand-up sets demonstrating that significant progress can be quickly made. Some very interesting insights are likely when they and the panel from the opening section of the evening, take the platform for an informal Question & Answer session, to answer queries raised by the audience. Enrolment will be possible before/during/at the end of the evening for any places remaining available.
NB: EARLY ENROLMENT IS RECOMMENDED - CURRENTLY MOST COURSES ARE OVERSUBSCRIBED
To avoid disappointment it is possible to hold you place with a deposit, as soon as a course is announced.
