Grainne Maguire (“Extremely funny”: The Times)
As a stand up comedian Gráinne Maguire is a breath of fresh air. Original and inventive with a subversive twist.
Her deep reserves of excitable energy, along with material about the Bronte sisters, reclaiming big bellies for the sisterhood and fancying Ed Milliband make her a unique new voice in comedy.
As a writer she is witty, incisive and thoughtful. Gráinne wrote a weekly satirical celeb column in national newspaper, The Irish World, and has also had articles published in The Evening Standard. Grainne has recently written for The Now Show, The News Quiz (BBC Radio 4) and 8 Out Of 10 Cats (Channel 4) and has a regular blog for The Indpendent.
As a comedian she has appeared on BBC1′s “Question Time”, “Daily Politics”, ITV1′s “Agenda”, Comedy Central’s ‘Stewart Lee’s Alternative Comedy Experience”, RTE’s “The Year That’s In It”, BBC 3′s Free Speech, Radio 5 Live’s “Seven Day Sunday” & “Hit List”, Radio 4’s “The Now Show” “Stephen K Amos’ An Idiots Guide” “Front Row” and “Women’s Hour”.
She has written for Channel Four’s “Alternative Election Night” and Radio 4’s “News Quiz” “Ayres on Air” “Listomania” “Dead Ringers” “Dilemna” “The Now Show” and “NewsJack” which she also script edits. In 2015, the Newsjack episode she script edited won the Rose D’Or for Best Radio Comedy. She also hosts the popular monthly topical night “What Has The News Ever Done For Me?”.
